Circulation Desk - Patrons come here to register
or renew their library card, pay overdue fines but mostly
to check out books with the help of the friendly Circulation
staff or at the self-check machine. A special community bulletin
board and pamphlet display for the sharing of news & events
information are directly across from the Circulation Desk.

Adult Reference Desk

Art Display Area - This is the gallery area of the library
that features monthly displays of artwork and other displays.
Art @ the Library is a month-long
juried exhibition that highlights the work of local artists
and appears here about 8 times throughout the year.

Meeting Room - This room fits up to 100 people and
is available for reservation. See our meeting

Kitchen - Can be reserved to use with the meeting room
for an extra fee. See our meeting room
policies.

Book Nook - The Friends
of the Library operate a used book "store" here. New book
purchases and book displays are featured in the display case
to the right of the Book Nook.

Young Adult Area - a special place for "YAs" to hang
out. There are magazines, events information and book collections
to appeal to middle and high school students. Take a look
at Teen Pulse, a "YA's"
special virtual place too!

Music CDs/ Audio Books / Feature Films -the library
is more than books and this is the place to see it. The library
offers music CDs, films on video and DVD and books on CD-ROM
or cassette tape. Next to this is a special area for Large
Print books for the visually impaired.

Adult Fiction -each month about 100+ new titles are
added. Science Fiction and Mystery titles are located on separate
shelves within this collection.

Brighton Room -this is the most unique thing about
the BDL, the local history and genealogy room. In addition
to a wealth of information about Brighton
and Livingston County there are also lots of books, microfilm,
and databases to use for genealogical
research.

Group Study Rooms - rooms with a view and a purpose.
These rooms are designated for groups of up to 8 to use for
studying. Rooms may be reserved in advance for up to 2 hours
by calling the Reference Desk at 810-229-6571, ext. 227.

Reading / Periodical Room -"periodicals" in library
speak, magazines to most people. Regardless of what they're
called this is one of the most popular areas of the library.
The library subscribes to over 300 popular and specialized
publications.

Business Center - many specialized reference books
are here to aid business people and others seeking information
about companies, products, finance, stock reports, etc.

Internet Workstations - the library's public
workstations feature high speed Internet access, web-based
reference tools such as forms online, CD-ROM software (dictionary
& encyclopedia), and of special note is the magazine database
that indexes hundreds of articles, many of them full text.
Printing is available; the cost to print is 10 cents a page.

Word Processing Workstations - these are dedicated
computers for those who need office tools such as word
processing. This is a heavily used service by job seekers
who are preparing resumes. To complement this the library
also offers a fax service.

Reference Books - The library's reference
collection includes standard tools such as encyclopedias,
manuals and handbooks, almanacs and directories.
18) Adult
& YA Non-Fiction Books & Videos - this is the
backbone of the library. This is where you come to get the
facts whether it's how to build a deck, start a business,
learn tai chi or plant a garden. There is also a Career Collection
which features information on colleges, financial aid, career
opportunities in various fields, test preparation materials,
and resume writing aids.

Copy Center - -two black & white copiers are available
here; the library charges 10 cents per copy. These machines
are "hot" during tax season-as a service to the community
the library has IRS & Michigan state tax forms during tax
season.

Youth Services - -nicknamed "Bookingham Castle" with
their own web site, this
area is designed for children through fifth grade. Here's
where they get their first library experience and become lifelong
readers. The Youth Services department offers reference services
and special programs throughout the year. Also includes:
