"Brighton, Livingston County: founded in 1832 by Maynard Maltby who named it Ore Creek from the stream which runs through the town and at that time showed mineral deposits; Wilber Fisher became its first postmaster on Nov. 5, 1836; by popular approval it was renamed on Feb. 13, 1838, after Brighton, N.Y. from which area many of the settlers had come; incorporated as a village in 1867 and as a city in 1928."
