The Friends of the Brighton District Library is a non-profit organization that supports the Library throughout the year. Funds from our used book sales, membership and other donations provide much-needed programming, equipment, and services at the Brighton District Library.
The Friends sponsor the Summer Reading program, Live Homework Help for students in grades 4 -12, Teen Poetry Slams, the NextReads online reader advisory service, presentations by authors, historians and other speakers, and classes on topics ranging from one-stroke painting to computers. Special events like Spring Fest, the Holiday Open House and Children’s Garden maintenance are funded by the Friends. In addition, the Friends purchase special equipment for the Library, such as laptop computers, digital cameras and software. Each year, thousands of library patrons enjoy the programs and services underwritten by the Friends.

Donating Materials
The Library accepts donations of books and other media (such as DVDs and audio books) whenever the Library is open.
The Friends of the Brighton District Library, who run the continuous book sale in the building as well as two large book sales each year, request that materials be clean, in good condition, and appropriate for sale. They generally do not accept textbooks, encyclopedia sets or other harder to sell items.
If you have a large donation, we suggest that you call ahead, as intake and storage space is limited at the Library. Call 810-229-6571 and select the Circulation desk or the Operator option.
Be sure to ask the Library staff assisting you for a receipt for your donation. While staff cannot provide a dollar value for you, the receipt is your record of your donation to a public institution. It helps to have a count (eg., 6 hardbacks, 20 pbs, 3 DVDs and one Leap Pad player) as part of your receipt.
