“Catch the Reading BUG!” Summer Reading Program! June 16- August 9; Ages 2-12
Hey kids, what will you do this summer? Let’s get buggy for books! Explore the Library and “bugs” of all sizes. Meet new friends and win great prizes. Enjoy magic, marionettes, music, garden picnics, crafts and goodies. More information to come in May.

People Who Knit - Monday, May 12; 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm (Conference Room) - Learn to knit or crochet, or share your skills. Make 4” squares to create a blanket for Project Linus as a service project. Bring your own supplies or use ours! Drop-in. Teens, Grades 6 and up, and Adults welcome.

Teen Gaming - Thursday, May 15, 2008; 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm (A/B Room) - Wii now have two Nintendo Wiis! Join us for Mario Kart, DDR, Guitar Hero III and more! Bring a friend or two and join the fun! Refreshments are provided.

Book vs. Movie - Saturday, May 17, 2008; 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm (A/B Room) - Teens, read the book and then watch the movie. Afterwards, we'll discuss the good, bad, and the ugly - all while enjoying some pizza and pop. Call 810.229.6571 x227 to register! This month's book/movie is Stardust by Neil Gaiman.

Adult Services Events

BDL Book Discussion Group- Mon. May 19, 2008: 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm, Conf. Rm. - Led by library staff, the BDL book discussion group welcomes everyone and does not require registration for its meetings. Extra copies of discussion titles are available at the library a month before the meetings; additional copies can be obtained through the catalog system. The book The Echo Maker, by Richard Powers, will be discussed at this May meeting.
Behind Barbed Wire: Midwest POWs in Nazi Germany- Sat. May 24, 2008: 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, Brighton District Library grounds - A free-to-the-public mobile exhibit on tour from St. Paul, Minnesota, gives visitors a glimpse into the lives of Midwesterners held in German prison camps. Included are artifacts, photographs, POW camp currency, and more! Allow 20-30 minutes for viewing.

Art at the Library is a juried series of two and three-dimensional art exhibitions. It is open to all active members of the Brighton Art Guild and to anyone living or working in Livingston County. The Series is a collaborative endeavor between the Brighton Art Guild and the Friends of the Brighton District Library. To be a part of the 2009 Art at the Library, Call for Entries are due June 14th.

The works of Anne Buckman (acrylic) and Leanne Schnepp (clay) will be on display from May 2 - June 27. The public is invited to the opening reception on Sunday, June 1 from 2-4pm.
